Who are you? Brydie Dillion
How old are you? 26
Current qualification/level: Im a registered plumber.
What got you interested in plumbing? I guess you could say I have always been interested in plumbing because I’ve been around it my whole life. However because it is a family business I was never pressured into it. Dad never forced it upon me. It was all me, one night at dinner I said I wanted to be a plumber.
What were you doing before plumbing? Prior to plumbing I looked after people with disabilities for years as well as working in the beauty industry.
What type of work are you doing/have you done? I’m a general plumber and I’ve been very lucky, my pop and father have eggs in lots of baskets. Basically, we do a little bit of everything from roofing to drainage and everything in between. We also do alot of water testing to find leaks in buildings. Once a month, if that, I’m digging and/or getting dirty, other than that my job is pretty clean and easy going not what you expect plumbing to be.
Where do you want to go with plumbing? The end goal for me would be to take over the family business along side my brother and see it reach 100 years. I believe we are 65 years in already. But who knows where plumbing could take me?
What do you like most about being a plumber? I love that for me no two days are the same. But what I love most is the skills its given me in my every day life, that if I didn’t come into this industry, I would never have gained the skills I have now.
Do you have any advice for women/girls out there thinking about getting into plumbing? I would tell any woman/girl who is tossing up in there head about coming into the industry to do it, don’t worry about what your friends or family might think. Believe me my friends where shocked when I said I was starting a trade, the girl who would never be seen without her makeup/hair done and never had a broken nail. Do what makes you happy, if you do that you will never work a day in your life.
The one thing I wish someone said to me 12 years ago is that you can still be a girly girl and be a plumber you don’t have to lose that side of you. And here we are today I still have my nails done and always wear a full face of makeup to work for no one else but me.
