Who are you? Fran Cowie

How old are you? 22

What got you interested in plumbing? I've always enjoyed creating and fixing things, and I've been interested in getting in doing a trade since I was a teenager. When I was leaving school, however, it didn't seem like an option that was really available to me a girl, so I didn't pursue it at the time.

What were you doing before plumbing? After school I did a year at university before I came to Australia, and since then I have been working in hospitality.

Where do you want to go with plumbing? I'm so excited to start my career in plumbing. I haven't decided yet exactly where I'd like to go with plumbing, but one of the things that I think is so great with this job is the diverse range of career options available, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.

What do you think of the Women in Plumbing program, and Certificate 2 course? I think the woman in plumbing program is a wonderful oppurturinity and I'm excited to be a part of it. Being able to get work experience while completing the certificate 2 is great.

Do you have any advice for women/girls out there thinking about getting into plumbing? Going back, I wouldn't pay so much attention to what others thought wouldn't be a good career for a woman. I'd recommend other women considering a trade to approach it with an open mind and really explore what options are out there before making a decision.
