Who are you? Sera Cifuentes
How old are you? 36
Current qualification/level: 2nd year apprentice
What got you interested in plumbing? I've had an interest in how things work since I was young. Plumbing is practical hands-on work and the skills I learn can be used throughout life.
What were you doing before plumbing? I've worked in retail and fast food, hotel maintenance, maintenance work for the RSPCA and I'm also a qualified panel beater.
What type of work are you doing/have you done? I have done a little mechanical plumbing, some maintenance plumbing (e.g. a few roof/gutter repairs, storm water and drain repairs), Installed solar hot water systems, a little bit of Reno work. Now I'm in commercial doing rough-ins and fit-offs.
Where do you want to go with plumbing? My number one goal is to get qualified. After that, it will depend on my experience as to what direction I will take.
What do you like most about being a plumber? I love making things work and using my hands. There's nothing better than building something or fixing something with your own hands. It's very satisfying.
Do you have any advice for women/girls out there thinking about getting into plumbing? For sure! Remeber that everything looks hard...until you learn how to do it.
